These are installed to stop birds laying nests in your chimney.  If these are not installed birds can lay nests in your chimney and can result in been a  hazard as over time the nests can completely block smoke from excessing your chimney.

In early Spring Jackdaws and other vermin such as squirrels can nest in chimneys.

Bird nests can be between two and three metres from the top of a chimney stack which can be difficult to remove.  Birds will tend to use the same nest year after year so it’s imperative that you install a bird guard and cowl.
